Surgical and Non-Surgical Fat Reduction Procedures
Looking into fat reduction procedures but aren’t sure which route to go? There are a variety of both surgical and non-surgical methods of fat reduction procedures, understanding the main differences between surgical and non-surgical procedures is the first step in helping you choose a fat reduction route.
Main Differences:
Surgical:
- Clearer, more intense results
- Larger surface area of treated areas
- Anesthesia required
- Can be invasive
- Recovery time required
- Effective for treating patients with higher BMI’s or patients who want to treat larger areas more aggressively
Non-Surgical:
- Minimally invasive (no incisions)
- Little to no scarring and bruising
- Little to no recovery time required
- Lower risk of infection
- Most effective for patients who are closer to their ideal weights but want to treat specific, smaller, areas
- Possibly require more than one treatment to achieve goal results
Types of Surgical Fat Reduction Procedures
Liposuction procedures target stubborn fat in almost all areas of the body. This procedure is usually combined with other procedures like BBLs***{embed link to “BBL” page (the page under the “Body” tab) here so that it opens in a new tab NOT navigate away from the original page through redirection}***, Mommy Makeovers, and more. Depending on the amount of fat being treated, the recovery time will vary from patient to patient. Liposuction targets both larger and smaller areas of excess fat that has stubbornly stuck onto the body despite any dieting and exercising a patient has tried.
Lipo360 is exactly what it sounds like, liposuction on multiple parts of the body to achieve an overall reduction of excess fat on the body, usually, the entire torso. Patients undergoing lipo 360 should have good elasticity remaining in their skin so that the patient will have a tighter figure outline once the healing process is complete.
Laser Lipo is a form of liposuction that uses lasers to break up and reduce fat cells. This process allows surgeons to deeply penetrate the layers of fat without harming any surrounding tissues or organs.
Body Contouring procedures are usually done for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and cannot get rid of excess sagging skin and fat. Body contouring is often a combination of multiple fat reduction
Ab Sculpting is a procedure that solely focuses on the sculping the abdominal region by sketching out a design for the patients desired abdominal aesthetic result. Liposuction is performed around the designed abdominal area. Some swelling is common after the procedure but when it subsides, patients will be able to see their new six-pack from their ab sculpting procedure.
Brachioplasty target fat and sagging skin in the arms. Depending on the patient’s circumstance and the extent of their Brachioplasty, the recovery and surgical scarring will vary. A mini-Brachioplasty, “hidden arm lift”, is ideal for those that have minimal sagging and excess fat. There are also standard and extended brachioplasties that can treat a wider variety of patient circumstances,
Thighplasty allows patients to tighten the appearance of their thighs by having the excess fat and skin removed by a surgeon. Like with a Brachioplasty, a thighplasty varies with both procedure and recovery time depending on a patient’s unique situation. This procedure is best suited for those who have lost a large amount of weight and are left with loose skin on their thighs or those that generally have excess skin and/or fat on their thighs they’d like to remove.
Types of Non-Surgical Fat Reduction Procedures
Smart Lipo is one of the newest techniques in the liposuction world. Smart lipo is done by targeting very specific areas by liquifying fat before being sucked out through small incisions. Smart lipo offers immediate results and less recovery time compared to traditional liposuction, however, it is also mainly used to treat either smaller or more specific areas.
